The exciting 11-inning matchup where the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 drew a aggregate 51M spectators in the US, Canadian, and Japanese markets. MLB reported this represents the most-watched World Series finale after the 1991 contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic game since the 2017 Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This marks a 16% increase over the last Game 7 between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, Game 5 was eighth, and Game 3 landed in 13th place.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game drew over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English-language broadcast in Canada since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – averaged 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a single network in Japan.

Overall Totals and Trends

The full seven-match World Series recorded 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two straight years.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total American average was 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.
