The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
